Feed is a general term for food for animals raised by humans. In a narrower sense, feed mainly refers to food for animals raised in agriculture or animal husbandry. Feed includes more than ten types of feed raw materials, such as soybeans, soybean meal, corn, fish meal, amino acids, miscellaneous meal, whey powder, oil, meat and bone meal, grains, feed additives, etc.

According to the level of meeting the nutritional needs of animals, feed products can be divided into:

(1) Complete feed. Feed that contains feed that meets the animal's needs for protein, energy, macro-minerals, trace minerals, vitamins and various nutritional and non-nutritional additives. It can be fed directly to animals.

(2) Concentrated feed. Usually, energy feed such as corn, wheat, bran, etc. accounts for more than 50% of the feed formula, and these raw materials are mostly produced by the breeders themselves or purchased by the breeders. In order to reduce transportation costs, feed producers design feed products that do not contain energy raw materials. After the breeders purchase such products, they can mix them with self-produced or self-purchased energy raw materials to produce relatively low-cost complete feed.

(3) Premixed feed. In order to further meet the needs of scale breeders for refined feeding and cost reduction, feed producers have designed premixed feed products, which mainly contain minerals, vitamins, various nutritional and non-nutritional additives. The characteristics of this type of product are low addition ratio (defined as no more than 10% by the Ministry of Agriculture Order No. 3 of 2012), high nutrient concentration, high mixing difficulty, high product value, high technical content, and high storage requirements.
